The elements all work towards the theme, which is the statement about life that the story is trying to get across. The plot, which is the sequence of events in a story, has to have the following elements:
Stories can have more than one conflict. Conflicts in The Outsiders include the greasers vs the socs, and Darry vs. Ponyboy What are the main differences between a short story and a novel?
The story’s point of view is the perspective from which it’s told. Types:
1. fly on the wall (objective) 2. omniscient (all-knowing) 3. limited
Why do we care who the narrator is? In The Outsiders, Ponyboy is the narrator, speaking in 1st person voice. We get to see his spin on things. We might even be more sympathetic towards him.
